Child participation is a key strategy for SAEIVAC and features prominently within the SAIEVAC work-plan for 2010-2015.
At the SAIEVAC Technical Consultation 2011, each SAARC country will be represented by a country delegation including two children: a girl and a boy.
The child delegates from the eight countries will meet at a regional children consultation, in Kathmandu on September 25-26, previously to their participation in the Technical Consultation.
These childrenare being selected at the country level, through national children consultations, which are held during August 2011 in the eight SAARC countries, with the support of SAIEVAC and SACG.
Objectives of Children’s Participation
• To review and revisit the outcomes of children’s participation at previous SAIEVAC events for children’s definitions, experiences and recommendations on violence against children and mechanisms for child protection;
• To provide a platform for children at the national and regional level to share their understanding, experiences and perspectives on care standards and child-friendly services in the region;
• To ensure processes so that children’s outcomes and the contribution from the national level consultation are adequately incorporated at the regional level and into the relevant sessions of the Technical Consultation
• To strengthen the role and impact of child and youth participation within the SAIEVAC mechanism and related processes;
• To ensure national and regional follow-up mechanisms of the outcomes of children’s participation within the SAIEVAC structure and opportunities;
• To document the processes and outcomes of of children participation for future reference and wider dissemination.
