The SAIEVAC Secretariat with the support of the South Asia Coordinating Group on Action against Violence against Women and Children (SACG), organised a technical consultation meeting on Care Standards and Child Friendly Services preceding its second Governing Board meeting. The Consultation, hosted by the SAIEVAC Secretariat and co-hosted by the Government of Nepal, was held at Soaltee Hotel, in Kathmandu, from September 27-29. It developed recommendations for the improvement of care-giving and protection of children in South Asia, to be presented to the SAIEVAC Governing Board for adoption, during its annual session, which was to be held in Kathmandu following the Technical Consultation.
Objectives of the Consultation
1. Promoting children’s right to appropriate and adequate care
2. Enhancing the understanding of appropriate and adequate care as key components of national child protection systems
3. Promoting parental care and community-based child protection mechanisms to prevent and respond to violence against children and unnecessary family separation
4. Sharing promising approaches of family strengthening and preservation, community-based prevention and response, alternative care, care standards and child-friendly services from across South Asia
5. Identifying gaps, opportunities and recommendations on care standards and child-friendly services for children without adequate parental care in South Asia
